Hope

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness, hope is the most universal of all human possessions. Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. Hope can be restored by acknowledging your strengths by making a list of all your accomplishments and strengths. You could also surround your self with supportive people, It;s easier to find hope with a strong community. Do things your enjoy, things that makes you happy. What takes away hope? A heart filled with regret has no room for hope, fear of things never happening can take hope away. There can be no hope when there lacks interest for better, lacks of truth, and lacks of purpose.  My parents give me hope because no matter the situation they will always be there. Also knowing that that things could be worse, beliefs that things will get better, and living without fear.

Social Justice

Although it is difficult to agree on the meaning "social justice" I take that to most of us it implies, among other thing, quality of the burdens, the advantages, and the opportunities of citizenship. I take that social justice is mostly related to the concept of equality, and that the violation of it is related to the concept of inequality. With that said social justice requires resource equity, fairness, an respect for diversity, as well as the existing forms of social oppression. Social justice entails a redistribution of resources from those who have unjustly gained them to those who justly deserve them, and it also means creating and ensuring the processes of truly democratic participation in decision making. Some current problems we face today are racial profiling because it isn't right to base searches and traffic stop base on a persons race or ethnicity.

Blog Post 3: What makes you happy?

Everyone in this world wants the same essential goal to be happy? People ask how do you be happy? or why is that person so happy. We all know people who have lots of misfortunes that we all would not want to have, and they are deeply happy. But why? “Because they are grateful. It is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy.” A lot of people walk around unhappy because of what they don't have or what they rather have. Which makes them ungrateful. Others appreciate what they have in life and whats given to them. Why are people so ungrateful? It’s because people compare themselves to other people. They see something that someone else has that they don't, and they start thinking their own life isn't so great. It happens to everyone at some point. I think that the people who are ungrateful should step back and think about what they have instead of thinking about what they don't have. There's always something to be grateful for even if it's your dog, your health, or the fact that you have a place to live. People are ungrateful either because they do not realize the value of the presence of the people around them, or they simply don’t care about it because they feel it is something that happens with everyone and so should happen with them too, kind of like an unspoken law. People can also be ungrateful after they have been treated ungratefully.

In the text "the Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" is a Utopian society that represents a fairy tale style of life where everyone is meant to be happy, the city is beautiful and well built. Beyond the happiness there was a child locked in a cage. The child is a way to show how cruel justice can be and how valuable happiness can be. This child can not be let out because it will negativity affect the happiness throughout the city of Omelas, let alone they say, even f the child were brought up into the city it would not get much good of its freedom. The child represents a homeless man, hopeless, lazy, drugs, nothing. Someone who wouldn't make a difference in our city or who won't use there freedom wisely. Some people wouldn't consider thinking this way would say homeless people are kind, left out, or didn't have opportunities, these are the people who tend to walk away from the Omelas. The people who don't want to contribute with locking children in cages to suffer. The Omelas and our society  are parallel because we don't know whats real until we live the problems. The child in the cage and the homeless man laying on the streets get the same attention and the same outcomes.

The Surprising Science of Happiness

Dan Gilbert in the speech is explaining that our longings and worries are both to some degree over blown because we have within us the capacity to manufacture the very commodity we are constantly chasing when we chose experience. Gilbert supports his claims by first off explaining how the human brain, over the course of our evolution, nearly tripled in mass from 200,00 B.C to 2,000,00 B.C , which we also gain new part. called the frontal cortex. The Cortex is the gray matter of the anterior part of the frontal lobe that is highly developed in humans and plays a role in the regulation of complex cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Gilbert includes that at some points the cortex can tell you different things, this is called impact bias it's the tendency to overestimate the impact of future events such as romances, promotions, tests, sporting events, or weight loss. Gilbert contrast that impact bias does not effect your happiness because happiness can be synthesized. We also have our  psychological immune system that helps us change the view of the world so we can feel better about world. Stating that we smirk because we believe that synthetic happiness doesn't have the same quality of natural happiness. We say the natural happiness is what we get when we get what we wanted and synthetic happiness is what we make when we don't get what we wanted. Dan Gilbert delivers a strong presentation on the beliefs that we hold about happy. What we think will make us happy isn't that much better than just about anything else we get. Basically common sense , if we don't get what we want, we tend to move on. I think he had a good point about reversibility of a decision and our happiness with it. setting up an elaborate experiment, Gilbert demonstrates that we are happier when we ca't go back on our decision than if e know we can change our minds later. More like, we tend to want more choices, whch suggest we are making ourselves unhappier without even knowing it. Gilbert's point is loud and clear, what we believe will make us happy doesn't really make us happy.

Happiness
Happiness is a metal state of well being characterized by positive emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happiness exists every where, everyone has a different definition to the true meaning of happiness. My definition of happiness is having something to do with love, someone you love or something to love and look forward to. Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond imperfections. I think the secret to being happy is to accept what you have some people I this world have levels of expectations and aspirations. We spend a lot of time complaining about the things that happened to us or things that we don't have, thinking about these things is almost a waste of time in my opinion, I suggest we be happy with what we already have and not take it for granted. We get our happiness from other people and from supporting others; ourselves as well. Take in consideration that if others can make you happy, you can definitely make others happy. We should cherish people that we have in our life and the ones who come in our life. As everyone should know in life you shouldn't compare yourself with others, it's important not to worry about what others think about you, it allows you to truly be yourself. Happy individuals are spontaneous, natural, and real. They say what you feel and think, and aren't concerned what other think of them. Being oneself makes one feel free. People should also think positive all the time. Emotions and bad feelings creates distress and disconfort. Happy people get things off the chest, their motto is get rid of it or it will get rid of you . Thinking happy will get people to always look on the bright side.Image result for happiness

Grit
Grit is that passion and perseverance for long term goals it is sticking with your future and in and day out to make that future a reality , like a marathon not a sprint, it is the abrasiveness of this rough material, but tot he tenacity and traction true grit provides in order to complete a goal. Grit is being able to complete something that is possible to complete with the amount of effort needed. Grit is important because having the ability to strive for what you want is life is a good thing. You should be able to work hard for what you want. Grit can be used in life when you fail at something then you need grit, you need to keep pushing through because its possible, of course its hard and tiring but its not impossible. I think grit defines how much you want something because if you really want something and you go for it, it's that  grit that kicks in to push you into proceeding. You can define grit by seeing who will pass on a math test and who wont, or who will leave boot camp and who wont, or who will finish college and who will drop out, these can define grit because they both involve how much effort you out in. There is not way to build a grit person, talent doesn't make you gritty, you can developed a growth mindset and it can change with your effort.
